Coding Grace Feb 2019 Newsletter

Learn-uary
We made it, January is finally over. We also ran our first Python workshops recently in January, and you can read about it here and here. ๐
With the Hacker Rank Developer Skills Report* (see link below, some really interesting results) out, it seems more folks really want to learn more about Go, Kotlin, and Python. We haven't organised any Go or Kotlin workshops, if you are interested in either of these, let us know. Currently we working on our next batch of workshops, and we are planning one at the end of this month, so keep an eye out.

I'm excited to be one of the mentors of the "Maker Workshop on Wearables" workshop at Hopper Local / Dublin on Feb 27, which is a one-day locally organized conference modeled after our Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC). Hopper Local / Dublin is the inaugural event and will launch an AnitaB.org Local Community in Ireland.
Event Details | Agenda

You will also find me at iWish on Tue (Feb 12 @ 12:50) at The RDS. I've been invited to give a short talk to students about what I do and how I got there, and if I have time, why being part of the community is so rewarding. More details >>>

๐ฅงA reminder that we are part of the Dublin's Raspberry Pi Jam, which itself is part of a global celebration of Raspberry Pi's 7th birthday on Mar 2 and kindly hosted by TOG Hackerspace. Check below for more info if you want to dust off those Pis and do something with them, you never know what amazing idea/invention you will come up with.

Want to keep this at the top so folks in and around Wexford can keep up to date with what they are up to.
If you are interested, you can sign up to their newsletter via http://eepurl.com/duzDSf.

๐ช๐บEuroPython announced "Guido van Rossum Core Developer Grant" to encourage new people to joing the team of Python Core developers to stop burnout.
If you want to meet other Python Core Developers, and learn how to contribute to core Python in person, you should check out EuroPython or PyCon US (and other PyCons that run sprints).
Tip: Start by contributing to Python documentation. ๐
"This group is small, works countless hours, often in their free time and often close to burnout due to not enough new core developers joining the team.
To help with growing the team, putting it more into the spotlight and give them a place to meet, demonstrate their work and a stage to invite new developers, we decided to give Python Core Developers free entry to future EuroPython conferences, starting with EuroPython 2019 in Basel, Switzerland."
๐ฎ๐ชDCU Ryan Academy's Female High Fliers Programme applications are now open (deadline: Mar 4). Here's the timeline, and if anyone is applying, good luck! ๐๐ผ
