Coding Grace April 2019 Newsletter

This month's eggcellent newsletter
"Humans are allergic to change. They love to say, ‘We’ve always done it this way.’ I try to fight that. That’s why I have a clock on my wall that runs counterclockwise." - Grace Hopper
🐣It's April already, I was away most of last month, but wowee, there was so much going on during International Women's Day month. I would love to hear what folks got up to. This was the first year I didn't do or attend anything, I spent Friday March 8th meeting my mom at the airport in Hong Kong and spending the day with her. 🥰
🐍Big thanks to Kevin O'Brien and grats to him and Python Ireland running their first regional PyCon outside of Dublin, and in my home town, Limerick! I was delighted to share the history of Python Ireland & PyCon Ireland which turned into a call to action for folks to get involved with the Python community.

🙌I have some news for you, I've accepted the role as Maker Advocate based in DCU as part of the MADE (Maker Advocacy in Dublin for Everyone) programme funded by SFI, and by the time you receive this newsletter, I'll have started. This would be an exciting chance for Coding Grace to be involved (as well as my other initiatives, so watch this space and our tweets). Which makes the following quote from LadyAda poignant. 💖
"We are showing people that engineering isn’t just the physics of how a transistor works. It’s using the technology, and being creative with it, and solving problems that people have or creating something beautiful with it. And I think that’s opening up engineering to a whole new group of people that maybe never would have thought that engineering was for them." - Limor Fried (Adafruit)
👾Recently I just joined a new group called Women in Games Dublin. If you are interested, come join us, we are small and they are planning friendly get togethers.
🌈I want to also give another nudge and shout out to a women in tech online community called Elpha, it was called Leap and backed by Ycombinator and now spun out on its own as an independent company, I've been a fan and user of the forum and has been very useful so far. It's free, you can join via https://elpha.com.

Want to keep this here so folks in and around Wexford can keep up to date with what they are up to.
If you are interested, you can sign up to their newsletter via http://eepurl.com/duzDSf.
