Coding Grace Dec 2020 Newsletter

We've made it to the end of the year! With lockdowns, restrictions, political chaos, we have reached the end of 2020 and ready to kick its behind and welcome in 2021!
❤️ A huge shout out to all the organisers out there who put themselves out there and trying out new ways to bring their events to everyone, we may miss in-person events, and this is as close we can get to connect and a great opportunity to collaborate and hear from guest speakers outside of Ireland. So there's a silver lining to all this out-of-control extraordinary year that is 2020.
🌈 Do not to forget your support for your local organisers running their virtual events and let them know how much you appreciate their work even with wee "thanks" on Twitter, Insta, etc, or email.
I'm still maintaining the curation of Irish virtual tech events amongst all the noise of virtual events from all over the world. Cross over global events is great, but our Irish events gets lost under all the noise, I personally found that I needed a bit more time to see if an event is Irish hosted or not, and I can say, World Time Buddy is your best friend when figuring out times in different time zones.
🤩 Did you know that there's around 67 diversity in tech groups around Ireland & Northern Ireland. That's a huge number of groups since I started gathering this information with the help from the tech community and its organisers since 2017 and there was around 28 groups back then! It started as a Medium post (which I keep updated) and every few months or so, I blog about the changes on my personal DEV account. If you want to help contribute, feel free to reach out.
🆕 Keep an eye out for Software Insights Ireland by Niall O'Connor, their first article will be about Python and its insights in the Irish industry and ecosystem using it. To get latest updates, follow them on LinkedIn, they will be launching a website soon.
🙌 Congrats to all the winners of this year's Diversity in Tech Awards, you can find the list of winners here: https://diversityintechawards.online/winners-2020
🤩 And for something a little bit different, I didn't realise Toy Story is 25 years old! Here's a few maker STEAM projects you can make with your family: https://www.kiwico.com/disney-toy-story-4-diy
🤞I do hope in-person events will happen next year, but probably not till late Q3 or Q4, and once that happens, it makes it even more special to see each other again in person.

WITS Ireland 30th Anniversary this year, if you haven't joined this wonderful organisation, I (Vicky) highly recommend it. They do a lot of work contributing to policies on a higher level and have a great representation in both public and private institutions.

😓BTW, I've started to notice that Irish events listings by organisers on meetup and eventbrite are getting non-Irish events mixed in, so shifting through them takes a wee bit more time. But I hope the curated list of mainly Irish Tech and Diversity in Tech events we have in our monthly newsletter (and our live blog) is of use to you until we figure out how/when we can run our own workshops.
🌈 Your Support 🌈
🤔We are still interested in finding out what you are interesting in learning, especially now that we are indoors and would be a great opportunity to learn new skills.
🤲We mentioned this in our newsletter last month. We want to try and make Coding Grace sustainable, our huge expense is our accountant each year. So we are trying out Open Collective and we are open to donations from individuals and corporates. We are not-for-profit and it's wholly volunteer-based running it.
