Coding Grace Feb 2021 Newsletter

February, learnuary...
We've gotten past January, so much has happened and it can only get better. And I'm still blown away with Amanda Gorman's The Hill We Climb, here's the last few lines of the amazing poem, I hope to buy a copy of her book (somewhere, The Gutter Bookshop is still waiting on details), it's due out this spring:-
"For there is always light,
if only weโre brave enough to see it.
If only weโre brave enough to be it."
โ Amanda Gorman
As we are nearing the anniversary of restricted lockdowns, as the community realisations of going virtual as in-person events were not possible, I am still continuing to maintain a list of Irish virtual tech events.
For anyone that's interested, the 100 Day Project has just started, it's a free global art project, but I am hoping to do something everyday, even if it's something small, a few lines of code each day (or bashing the keyboard) on my latest personal project (site generated with 11ty deployed on netlify) or making use of my sewing machine with my novice skills while watching (and re-watching) Youtube tutorials. I've so much on my bucket list, but I've narrowed it down to these two main things. Although I'm not registered, I'm taking that 100 Day Project idea to keep doing the small things, and not stress out about achieving and completing a huge project. And it's a good distraction from binge watching shows. ๐ Plus you get to learn something new, no matter how small it is. ๐

"We want to give coding superpowers ๐ฆธโโ๏ธ to girls around the world so that they can grow up to be inventors, entrepreneurs, and change-makers thriving in our digital society - using technology to shape the future and solve problems that they are passionate about."
โค๏ธShout out to our friends at imagiLabs and thanks for the discount to Coding Grace members and friends for their online store. Enjoy!

MONTHLY REGULARS
๐ Are you working on a project? Share it with us, I'm happy to have you as a guest blog. Drop me an email at contact@codinggrace.com.
๐BTW, I've started to notice that Irish events listings by organisers on meetup and eventbrite are getting non-Irish events mixed in, so shifting through them takes a wee bit more time. But I hope the curated list of mainly Irish Tech and Diversity in Tech events we have in our monthly newsletter (and our live blog) is of use to you until we figure out how/when we can run our own workshops.

๐คWe are still interested in finding out what you are interesting in learning, especially now that we are indoors and would be a great opportunity to learn new skills.

Last year, we wanted to try and make Coding Grace sustainable, our largest expense is our accountant each year. We are happy to continue using Open Collective and we are open to donations from individuals and corporates. We are not-for-profit and it's wholly volunteer-based running it.
๐ Did you know that we have set up a page on Github Sponsors?
You can read about it if you are curious on how this platform supports the open source community (projects, organisations like ours, etc) via github.com/sponsors.
Huge thanks to our supporters who contributed to our Open Collective fund in 2020. Every little counts as we really appreciate it. Above is the screenshot of our supporters via opencollective.com/coding-grace.

We are also on dev.to, it's a platform for devs to post what they are up to, and we are cross-posting to it ourselves. We are open to folks share articles with us, and if you are also on the platform, please follow us. If you want to contribute, I will send you the key to join us.

In case your are curious, I go through meetup, eventbrite and other places each month to curate events of interest for this newsletter, it takes a lot my time. BTW, Startup Digest Dublin also has a great listings of events happening in Dublin.
