๐ Coding Grace - Sep & Oct 2025 ๐

It's autumn already. We have been busy with events last month plus we received an unexpected community award. There's lots of news in this edition, so hold on to your seats!

๐ At the recent ShipItCon, Mick and Vicky really appreciated the opportunity to run the Irish tech community table which also was the maker table, from sharing zines, stickers, information about various community groups to encouraging people to adding flair to their badge to win the best squishy (ShipItCon's mascot) badge competition. But we were surprised with being one of the first winners of the squishy awards for our community contribution. Thank you to ShipItCon community and organisers for being so supportive. โค๏ธ
๐ธ If you wonder what it's like, their official photo archive is now available for your perusal.

๐๐The PyLadies Dublin x dub|sec event took place the following day, and Mick & Vicky were there with co-organiser Fionnuala Murphy welcoming our guest speakers and guests for a whirlwind day of information in the world of cybersecurity. So many great pro-tips, information about various roles, and recommendations if you are interested in working in cybersecurity. Don't worry if you didn't make it, the announcements and resources can be found here.

โ๏ธ Dublin Maker was a weekend showcasing makers and crafters at their new venue this year at Leopardstown Raceourse. We saw a robot dog, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and many other crafters and makers.
Coding Grace were delighted to be part of the festival of 80+ makers where we ran our first ever Zine workshop on Sunday. The young makers were so excited and made fantastic zines, and were delighted that we wanted to take a photo of their creations, which they can bring home with them. We will be creating physical and digital copy of the collection of zines made by these creative makers. So watch out for updates in our socmed!

๐ Diversity in Tech Awards will be taking place on Sep 17 at The Gibson Hotel. Vicky is back as one of their judges this year.
The very best of luck to the finalists, especially Mairin Murray from TechFoundher, whose been so supportive of Coding Grace. She's up for the Trailblazers award. There are others from the TechFoundHer collective are finalists as well including Deirdre McCarthy, Israel Ngombo, Melissa Proxenos. Also so cool to see Teen-Turn being a recipient of the Diversity in Tech Impact award. ๐๐๐

๐ Andrea Magnorksy (also part of Coding Grace) will be keynoting at Cloud Native Summit 2025 in Auckland (NZ). It will be available after their LinkedIn live broadcast on their Youtube channel below after the broadcast. โฌ๏ธโฌ๏ธโฌ๏ธ

๐ A big congrats to the women in tech who made the Connected's Top 100 list including aforementioned Mairin Murray, WITS Ireland supporters ( Louise Callanan, Dr Tanya Mulcahy, Susan Treacy), Women in AI Ireland President, Dr. Alessandra Sala.

๐๏ธ And which makes a neat segue to WITS Ireland who are celebrating their 35th Anniversary this year and they are working on the WITS Archive Project, which document their organisationโs long and vibrant history. You can keep an eye on updates from them about this project as well as upcoming events here.
Fun fact: Did you know that President Higgins is their Patron which is amazing and in their words: "...also a recognition of the national importance of our mission."
๐น๏ธ Although we won't be at Diversity in Tech Awards, you will find Vicky at Nexus Games Conference (Oct 1-2). If you are going, she has signed up to their MeetToMatch platform if you want to meet her for a chat on the conference day, or just bump into one another over tea/coffee.
For any game devs or studios who are going, "The Nexus Best Pitch, presented by Imirt, will take place at the Nexus Games Summit".
Imirt is delighted to offer this unique opportunity for its members to showcase their games to a panel of industry experts and a live audience, competing for the title of The Nexus Best Pitch 2025!!
๐ As the evenings get longer, here's something to watch. The Python documentary was premiere recently and was wonderful to watch, from the creator and prominent contributors to the language and community to how they start to encourage more diversity in Python.
๐ If you have missed it, you can watch it for free (embedded above) or via https://youtu.be/GfH4QL4VqJ0?si=6-Vukc2t8STXaOVf. Enjoy! ๐ฟ

An event for students and early career folks looking for a role in the industry.

I did try as an experiment to keep track of all the various news and events that came after the last bi-monthly newsletter, but it was a lot of work. I'm looking for ways to micro blog (like my zines micro blog) and share to other platforms in wee bitesize updates. Maybe I should use micro blog, or build something myself. But I'd like to find a way to keep folks updated after the newsletter, any suggestions welcomed. ๐
โญ๏ธ Our next bi-monthly newsletter will be in November 2025 including the following:-
- ๐ข Announcements
- ๐๏ธ Events
- ๐ Opportunities
This will be covering โ๏ธ November - December โ๏ธ , drop us an email at contact@codinggrace.com.
Cheers,
/// Vicky ๐ฑ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐ฆ
