💖 It’s also Nollaig na mBan, while there’s not many diversity in tech events happening today, there’s other events happening around the country.
🐦 While the birdshpere is still a right mess, we are still on it, but you can also find us on Mastodon: mastodon.ie/@codinggrace

👩💻 Good news for those who develop in Swift or want to get into it, the framework it’s built on will be rebuilt in Swift will be Open Sourced.
The Foundation framework is used in nearly all Swift projects. It provides both a base layer of functionality for fundamentals like strings, collections, and dates, as well as setting conventions for writing great Swift code.
Foundation is being rewritten with Swift and will be developed as an open source community effort. @illian explains:

👉 Accessibility (A11y) should not be forgotten, came across this for Microsoft users:
You can (and should) add alt text to other documents besides HTML, including Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, and more. @Microsoft has put together a resource on how to add alt text to files made using Microsoft products.
— Accessibility Awareness (@A11yAwareness) 2:38 PM ∙ Dec 12, 2022
A11y applies everywhere, including social media like posting to Mastodon. For those new to Mastodon platform, please use alt text and if it’s use “content warning” to hide the image, it doesn’t have to be content sensitive, but it will hide the image for those who don’t want it loaded when viewing their timeline.
🎧 Change Catalyst has a podcast called “Leading With Empathy & Allyship Show” which I just added to our 📚Reading List (*Note: Goes to an external notion site, we are still trying to find a better way to pull together this list and embed it somewhere).
📢 Open Doors Initiatives along with TU Dublin launched “Entrepreneurship for Migrants, Refugees and Asylum Seekers” course which starts this Jan 25th and Applications for the course will close soon on January 11th.
💼 With all the current news of tech layoffs still happening, keep an eye out for local companies that are still hiring.
