Coding Grace June Newsletter & Upcoming events

Sun, sea and tech events...

Ok, maybe not all together, but one can hope. I secretly hope to organise a geek criuse in the Med someday, conference on a ship, how cool is that? :-)

Thanks for all the people who register their interest in the Python beginners workshop, the response was fantastic. And from the feedback, the two most popular days and times to run the Python beginners workshop is... /drumroll

1st: Weekend Morning (4-5h) ||| 2nd: Weeknight (2h)

We are delighted to announce that Coding Grace is partnering with Dr. Aphra Kerr on a pilot research and community project on diversity in games. We would like to bring together experts in informal and formal education, and industry representatives, to form a network that will collaborate to analyse, address and raise issues of diversity in the games industry and games culture in Ireland.

We will use this network to firstly, organise some field research to assess current informal educational offerings and secondly, follow up with a series of workshops that explicitly address issues of diversity in games.

The project began in Feb 2016 and will run, at least initially, until Autumn 2016. Our pilot is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council in Canada via the ReFiG project.

Also delighted to announce that Coding Grace is part of a working paper: The spaces, mobilities and soundings of coding by Sung-Yeuh Perng and Sophia Maalsen that has been developed as a pre-print for a chapter in an exciting book Experiencing Networked Urban Mobilities, edited by Katrine Hartmann-Petersen, Emmy Laura Perez Fjalland and Malene Freudendal-Pedersen. [This still is the same as last month] It's been a particularly quiet month due to my part-time gig at Dogpatch Labs as their Tech Community Liaison and Events Coordinator, so apologies for any delayed responses or if you are waiting for my replies. Please bump your emails and I'll respond tout suite.

Here's some links of interest that I pinned for this month. Do let me know if you want me to include a link to share with folks.

Any enquiries or if you want to help, please email contact@codinggrace.com.

Thanks,

/// Vicky
