❄️ Coding Grace Nov & Dec Newsletter ❄️

It's the last issue of 2025! Thank you to everyone who stayed with us all this time, we really appreciate your support.

As it's the end of the year, we have been doing our annual bit of tidying of the Diversity in Tech Groups around Ireland and Northern Ireland listings. It was sad to see so many groups going away but check out the groups that were added in 2025 below.

Are we missing any other groups? Let us know and will update the list: contact@codinggrace.com.

🎉 What a wonderful evening celebrating 35 years of WITS Ireland which was hosted at MoLi recently, with an exhibition of artefacts and a gallery of past milestones and achievements.

#wits35 #womeninstem #stemireland #inclusion #equalityinstem #legacy | WITS Ireland (Women in Technology and Science)
WITS 35th Anniversary Exhibition ⚡️ Last night, we marked 35 years of WITS Ireland (Women in Technology and Science) with a special evening at the MoLI – Museum of Literature Ireland. The event and exhibition brought together many of our past chairs, founding members and long-time supporters – the women who built the foundation for everything WITS is today. It was a moment to pause and honour their work, to reconnect, and to reflect on how far the organisation has come since 1990. The exhibition shares some of that story – the milestones, the challenges, and the community that has carried WITS through the decades. We were joined by Minister for Education Helen McEntee, who spoke about the importance of visibility and opportunity for women and girls in STEM – words that resonated deeply with everyone in the room. Thank you to all who came to celebrate, and to everyone who continues to shape WITS. This exhibition is just the beginning - it will continue to grow and evolve as we do, guided by the same purpose and shared commitment to do better and be better. Jean O’Donnell Jennifer Keenahan Collin Mitchell Claire O Connor Olivia Sheehan Rochelle Carvalho Rebecca Molloy MBA Klaudia Prys Aisling Cronin #WITS35 #WomenInSTEM #STEMIreland #Inclusion #EqualityInSTEM #Legacy

It was great to see so many past Chairs in one room, it's the testament to everyone who gave their time volunteering, advocating through policy, events and more, and being a formidable platform giving girls and women in STE(A)M visibility and support. You can find out more about WITS Ireland and how you can support all the good work they are doing here.

Speaking of inspiring folks, here's a trailer of a documentary of one of the most amazing game developers as well as champion of diversity in games, and she is based in Galway, it's Brenda Romero! Read about how the documentary came about here.

🍿 I can't wait for it to come out, who's up for a watch party!

💟 Some OSS news, the Python Software Foundation has withdrawn a $1.5 million proposal to US government grant program

[...] the PSF simply can’t agree to a statement that we won’t operate any programs that “advance or promote” diversity, equity, and inclusion, as it would be a betrayal of our mission and our community.
The PSF has withdrawn a $1.5 million proposal to US government grant program | Carol Willing
Excellent post from Simon Willison on the PSF withdrawing a $1.5 million proposal from NSF. The Carpentries faced a similar situation earlier this year. It is a shame that the NSF terminology and current government policy creates a science-damaging and humanity-hostile environment for funding scientific innovation. I urge the big tech firms to show support for the Python Software Foundation by increasing your donations to a language that is the foundational language of your AI business models. https://lnkd.in/gtrVsMNp

It's a bittersweet post that a community organisation made the hard decision and stood by what it right by their community. And if you want to keep updated and also how to support them, check out their blog.

🎤 And more Python-related news, PyLadies Dublin around round up the year with their last event of the year this month, and this means the team is looking forward to more activities in 2026. If you are interested in giving a lightning talk, a workshop, or collaborating with them, you can submit your proposal here, and check out other community groups who are looking for speakers (scroll down to the Looking for Speakers section).

PyCon Ireland is happening soon, and we will be running the Irish Tech community table at their sparkling new host venue at O'Reilly Hall (UCD). We will be surrounded by other community tables, so if you are about, drop by.

#community #techcommunity #maker #steam #zine #irishtechcommunity #python #django | Vicky Twomey-Lee
🥰 I’ll be there running the #community table on both days with stickers, zines and there might be a couple of other people besides myself talking about their #TechCommunity groups & activities. 🧢 Come talk to me about PyLadies Dublin, PyLadies , @PyladiesCon, Coding Grace, GameCraft (Ireland), Python Software Foundation (I’m in the grants working group), EuroPython Society & EuroPython as well as WITS Ireland (Women in Technology and Science) (I’m a member). ⚙️ I’ll also happily talk about Dublin Maker and all things #Maker & #STEAM-rated as well, although there might be a special awesome Maker of all Makers making an appearance at the table. 📖I’ll have a tech #zine library for you to peruse. If you want to make a tech/geek mini-zine, I will have all the materials available to make a zine. I can also show you how to make one if you don’t know how, and I’d love to take a pic of your finished zine. ✨ Finally I do have a limited amount of #IrishTechCommunity sticker sheets as well as #Python & #Django pony stickers. When they are gone, they are gone! 🙃 💖 Thanks to the following who are happy to be part of the sticker sheet: Coding Grace Codú Dublin C++ Dublin Data Science (/cc Mick Cooney) Dublin Linux Community Dublin Maker Dub|Sec GameCraft GDG Dublin & WomenTechMakers Dublin GDG Portlaoise Go Ireland PyData Ireland PyLadies Dublin Python Ireland Ruby Ireland ShipItCon Tog Hackerspace Designated Activity Company WITS Ireland

We will have limited custom stickers, a DIY zine station to make your own techie zine. Not sure how to make one, we have a zine library and we will be there to show you how and all materials are provided at the table. Chat and ask about the various Irish tech community groups that are running events, and a chance to talk to the organisers themselves.

🎄 While the holiday season is right around the corner, we are delighted to share the news (not officially announced yet) that the annual Irish Techie Quiz will be back on early December. Things are still being finalised, so keep an eye out on your socials once the registration page is published. We can't wait to announce alongside our host partner and it would be a great way to end this year with a meetup of all meetups event raising money for the Dublin Simon Community.

And while you wait, here's something fun, check this out (no coding knowledge required), it's an "’80s BASIC type-in mags are back, but this time for HTML!" - you read right, it's a physical magazine for coding.
